don't know." PhilipC says, "I think we agreed to give her another honorary
membership assuming that once the website finishes the upgrade, that she'll
take over the role of a webmaster." Scottyg says, "Philip, it is common
that "we agree" to something but no one is assigned to implement."
Strangelv-1 says, "She has been for awhile now" PhilipC says, "The short of
it is, we're still looking for a board member to fill in Ben's seat which
is up." PhilipC says, "If we acknowledge that Rose is no longer a board
member due to lapsed membership, then we'll need to find another person to
fill her seat." Strangelv-1 says, "Who would be the person to implement
this? Once upon a time it woulsd have been me but the procedures have
changed,, I do't remember the procedures I was struggling to follow that my
successor got into trouble for fumbling in exactly the ways I was afraid of
fumwbring, and I don't know if I have the permissions anymore" Strangelv-1
tries to think of how many board members we'd need to be able to drop to
get quorum, but is still trying to wake up PhilipC says, "Rose's membership
expired last September" Scottyg says, "No, Rose's membership has not been
renewed yet." Strangelv-1 says, "It's been officially renewed but it hasn't
been entered into the system" Strangelv-1 says, "She's probably not the

that information? Is there an online statement?" Strangelv-1 says, "That
numxber is domwn a bit isn't it" PhilipC says, "It's down from paying for
the logo" Scottyg says, "I get a paper statement, but yes, we have online
account access too." PhilipC says, "How far back can you go with those
statements?" Strangelv-1 has deja vu with another ogranization with
>$30,000 with that value slowly declining. It did not go well after awhile.

will have to check. I had statements all the way back to opening the
account, but when Dana becasme Treasurer I sent those to him and I can't
remember if I made copies of everything." PhilipC says, "No problem. I'd
like to get copies of those (ideally through online statements)" Scottyg
says, "Our bank balance is declining mostly because of one thing - The fees
we are being charged for our merchant account are a very large fraction of
receipts." PhilipC says, "But my goal would be for us to develop financial
statements." PhilipC says, "If we have a good program for members, then we
can grow our way out of that problem. The membership history report I
develop last month really drove home the point that growth has been flat
for a pretty long time." Scottyg says, "We were trying to get our act
cleaned up with Paypal and then we could dump our merchant account and
rocess credit cards and payments through them." Strangelv-1 says, "That
definitely sounds like something to address. OUr list of options may have
increased since the last time we discussed those" Scottyg says, "But that
seems to have stalled out." Strangelv-1 says, "What about Pyrix?
Admittedly, I've had two weeks of latency with them. This would probably be
less of a problem for us than it is for my PACs, though" Scottyg says, "I
don't know anything about Pyrix." Strangelv-1 says, "It's for nonprofits"
Scottyg says, "But I don't understand why we are having such a problem with
Paypal." Strangelv-1 says, "It charges smaller fees than PayPal"
Strangelv-1 says, "And isn't assuming commercial transactions -- it may ot
even have the ability to handle those" Strangelv-1 says, "IIRC there's at
least one other option for nonprofits but I don't remember the name"

need to do to activate them? Say if I want to install a discussion board or
a project management tool?" PhilipC says, "Or could I just add them and let
you work on adding the necessary code to ensure they're added properly?"
Strangelv-1 says, "Which modules have you found and want to instal? It
would probably be a good idea to run them past Rose first" Scottyg says,
"Generally modules have to be enabled after they arfe installed. That's
straightforward to do." Strangelv-1 says, "I must admit she's not on in
here as often as she used to be, but she's usually on at least every other
day for a few hours" PhilipC says, "James, I haven't had a direct
conversation with Rose in at least 3 months if not longer. " Scottyg says,
"Rose is now here mostly in the morning." Strangelv-1 says, "Last one I had
was early this morning" PhilipC says, "It would be helpful for her to send
us e-mails" Strangelv-1 says, "A lot of our business gets done in the MOO"

that we want a discussion board. I know that if we poll the 20-39 crowd,
they'll wonder why we don't have one." PhilipC says, "Modernizing our
communications is not optional. " PhilipC says, "If we don't do it, our
organization will go extinct." Scottyg says, "We had a discussion forum but
had to shut it down because of spam." PhilipC says, "Let's put some access
controls on it " pjbanyai says, "When Rose's membership became expired she
was automatically removed from the mailing list an all teams." Lunadyne
says, "Agreed, which is why we need to move on from the MOO. It totally
Zorks me out every time." PhilipC says, "like a captcha" PhilipC says, "Me
too" Strangelv-1 says, "We need a plan that's different than our previous
attempts at having a discussion board or it will have the exact same fate
as our previous attempts" PhilipC says, "MOO is obsolete. We should have
our meetings via videoconference or at least teleconference. Check out the
minutes of other organizations and you find that they're getting 10x more
done than we are." Strangelv-1's teleconferencing experiences are far less
productive than this Strangelv-1 says, "we need to do something about that
automatic removal misfeature that no one still in a leadership position
even wants" pjbanyai says, "There was an updated version of the forum at
moonsocietyforum.com it had a captcha and improved security/spam yet still
suffered from it so much that it has been frozen/closed for several years
now." Lunadyne says, "Folks need to get comfortable with things like
Google+." Strangelv-1 doesn't know what the Apache Wave status is Lunadyne
says, "I've used Google Hangouts quite a bit and they can be way more
productive than this MOO." PhilipC says, "As hard as I'm working to move
off Google and Facebook, I'm willing to leave behind a token presence for
their social media features." PhilipC says, "We were willing to hold off
modernizing our communications until the election, which is coming up very
soon. After that, we should move to a more modern system." Strangelv-1
says, "I have a token presence on Facebook and LinkedIn. I've given up on
participating on meetings held on Facebook and no longer even try. I closed
all of my Google accounts after they changed their privacy policy."
Strangelv-1 says, "The most provising replacement for the MOO has been
Apache Wave, but I've still not seen an exabple of it" pjbanyai says, "We
have a Google Apps account which includes Advanced Google Groups for
Businesses. That is both a forum and mailing list app. There is also
Google+ for businesses. However we can not use the Google Apps or even the
Gmail without the ability to update dns and MX records." Strangelv-1
wonders what we neeid to do to regain control of our own DNS records
Lunadyne says, "Are those controlled by our web server?" Scottyg says, "We
have control of them, I just have to send the request to Randall." PhilipC
says, "Let's try to find a more modern venue for the August meeting."

vote is for a Google Hangout." PhilipC says, "We need to move on." Scottyg
says, "Our domain is registered with pair networks, and Randall is the
admin." pjbanyai says, "Dana said that he thought Scotty had some access to
them. They are controlled by the domain name registrar. Which I originally
thought Dana was fully in control of." PhilipC says, "Okay, the next issue
on the agenda is the election." Scottyg says, "DNS and MX records are
maintained through the domain account." PhilipC says, "We need to get the
call for candidates out within the next few days. We could send out a
blanket e-mail to all current members." Lunadyne says, "I always forget -
which specific positions are open again?" PhilipC says, "I'd suggest that
we try to recruit whoever might be interested and then come July 15, we
send out the election ballots." PhilipC says, "I believe we have 2 open
seats on the board and the president + secretary seats are open as well."
PhilipC says, "Ben stepped down and so we need to find another person for

Secretary. There are supposed to be 3 Directorships open in even years. A
few years ago they were confused and I still have not figured out which are

best to recruit candidates and then send out ballots on July 15? The
election could be open from July 15-31, and then counted before the August
management committee meeting." PhilipC says, "There's also the issue of
when we will have the next Annual Meeting." PhilipC says, "For the future,
we should have a set date regarding the election and the processes involved
with it." PhilipC says, "Should we have the Annual Meeting next month or do
you want to postpone it until September?" Lunadyne says, "I'm inclined to

three positions mentioned on almost every ballot. I will try to figure it
out tonight after the meeting. We have had at least one Annual Meeting in

membership meetings werle on the second wednesday was becaues we didn't

final chance for any member to vote in the election and then the first

let you know that I've submitted an application to get seed funding for a
new telepresence robotics company. I plan to use it as a stepping stone for
a full-fledged teleoperations company. It will take some time but I would

PhilipC says, "Our focus here will mainly revolve around research but we
could have a separate cooperative ventures in the private for-profit side."
PhilipC says, "I would also like to discuss with investors and my state
officials about giving us the funds to lease a NASA research facility."
PhilipC says, "but before we do that, we need to show that teleoperations
technology is at least somewhat viable. I'll be doing my part here but I
know that TMS can help too." PhilipC says, "This NASA research facility is
at Plumbrook Station, which is affiliated with NASA Glenn in Cleveland."
Strangelv-1 says, "Telepresence robots are already on the market, but they
are either small toys with very limited range and endurance or they're way
past what I can afford to pay" Strangelv-1 says, "They all also seem to be
married to an operating system I've not used for about a decade" PhilipC
