In the two week period February 26th to March 11th, 2006, the Moon Society conducted a moonbase simulation exercise at the Mars Society's Mars Desert Research Station in Hanksville, Utah, as MDRS Crew 45 (daily reports, including photos)

This involved a $7,000 rental fee for the facility, of which The Moon Society, The Lunar Reclamation Society, and the National Space Society each contributed an initial $1,400. Other donors contributed another $1,500, and the Moon Society made up the difference. Cost of equipment, materials, and food was covered by a private donor.

Meanwhile, in Sweden, society member and Advisor Niklas Jarvstrat is making major progress in transforming an abandoned mine site in central Sweden into an Analog Moonbase Complex. The Society strongly supports this ambitious and comprehensive effort. No one analog operation can test everything. A multiplicity of efforts has the benefits of touching more bases, and providing more information.
