, launching
member-originated projects, that could multiply the total Society
output substantially. This is something wonderful, something that had
not been foreseen or imagined.
Our second Town Hall Meeting was
held March
11th on Skype group
chat.
The meeting began with a request for agenda items, and was chaired by
Shaun Moss. Attendance was again close to two dozen,
including several
new
participants.
Discussion was dominated by the idea to stage a world wide
"Apollo Moon Party" on the 40th
Aniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing and first moonwalk,
in the time frame July 16-24, 2009.
There will be local Apollo Moon Parties,
probably on Sat. July
18th and/or Sun. July 19th and
An International Party,
possibly an Internet
Telethon with hosting to skip from time zone to time zone
around the world possibly on the 20th.
Since the meeting, there has been a suggestion to broade the party to
include
celebration of the 33rd anniversary of Viking 1 on Mars, which occurred
according to plan on July 20th, 1976, the 7th anniversary of the first
Moon walk. A joint
Apollo Moon Party - Viking Mars Party would reach more
enthusiasts and be an occasion to demonstrate how Moon AND Mars
collaboration makes much more sense than self-defeating Moon OR Mars
discussions.
Participants all thought that the second meeting was again so
successful in bringing out
new ideas, that needed timely deelopment, that a decision was made to
hole the event in another two weeks, on March 25th.
Why Wednesday and why that time
slot? Well, that's
what the Society leaders are used to. They will not be "expected" to
attend, but of course are most welcome to do so. In these meetings, we
want to hear from members (current and former), from visitors, from
friends, etc.
